Special Education

Michigan Special Education Law Attorney

If you have a child with a disability, you want to make sure they get the help they need, but fighting your special education concerns on your own can be difficult. I, special education lawyer Sidney Kraizman, am dedicated to helping Michigan families with their special education concerns. From reaching a settlement to handling litigation, contact me so that I can help you understand your options.

Fighting for Families

The main concern for most families with special education concerns is providing adequate support for their child in the classroom. A student with a disability  may need a reading program based on peer reviewed research small group instruction. Some students may even need one on one instruction.

It is my job to help you and your family with every aspect of your special education concerns, including:

  • Obtain independent educational evaluations at public expense
  • Obtain a proper evaluation
  • Representation at the Individualized Education Program (IEP) team meeting
  • Drafting the complaint in special education
  • Representation at resolution sessions and mediation
  • Representation at due process hearings
  • Representation in federal court after due process hearing.

Special Education Enforcement

If you are not receiving the special education programs and services that are in your childs Individualized Education Program (IEP), there are things I can do to help you and your family. By filing a complaint with the Michigan Department of Education, I can help you get the help you deserve. Your school owes you compensatory education, and they must follow the obligation of the IEP.

I help families who have children with the following special needs concerns:

  • AutismAutism spectrum disorder
  • Dyslexia
  • Learning disabilities
  • Attention deficit hyperactive disorder (ADHD)
  • Attention Deficit Disorder (ADD)
  • Cognitive impairment
  • Severe multiple impairments
  • Blind (Visually Impaired)
  • Multiple Sclerosis (MS)
  • Cerebral Palsy
  • Deaf / Hard of Hearing (Hearing Impairment)
  • Downs Syndrome
  • Emotional Impairment
  • Bi-polar disorder
  • Depression
  • Speech and Language Impairment

Children in Private Schools

Children in private school face a different set of obstacles and have a different set of options available. Under the Michigan Auxiliary Services Act, children in private schools can obtain speech and language services, physical therapy, occupational therapy, and teacher consultant services. Private school students may also be able to attend special education classes in public schools.
