Assisting Your Family

From autism spectrum disorder or ASD, includes autism,  Asperger's Disorder, and Pervasive Developmental Disorder, or PDD. Autism spectrum disorders very in the severity of symptoms and the in the presence of various features, such as specific language delay and mental retardation.

I can help you obtain an appropriate program and services for your child.  

• Obtain appropriate independent educational evaluations at public expense
• Obtain a proper evaluation
• Representation at the Individualized Educational Program (IEP) team meeting
• Drafting the complaint in special education
• Representation at resolution sessions or

• Representation in federal court after due process hearing.

Children with autism require special education services. If your child has autism spectrum disorder, he should have the services of a teacher endorsed in autism spectrum disorder. They may also require very intensive services, such as small group or one on one intensive behavior analtytic intervention for 30-40 hours per week.

Every child with autism has different needs and concerns. Interaction with regular education students can be very helpful. Training in social skills and a plan for positive behavior support is needed by many students, and that includes keeping detailed data of progress. Many students with autism can be mainstreamed or included in regular education.
